Congratulations to our 2019 YIP of the Year: Kam

The Yip of the Year award is designed to recognize someone who goes
above and beyond to help his or her peers, who shows dedication to
the insurance industry and who are involved in their community. The criteria also includes work accomplishments, promotions, educational achievements and volunteer initiatives. We look for people who best demonstrate the values that embody the spirit of YIPT’s mission to build and connect Toronto’s insurance community.

Following last year’s trend, the Member Engagement Committee decided to again use an independent selection panel in which to select out of the finalists, a winner. Although YIPT sets the criteria, ultimately the decision was made independently of us by way of our selection panel, which featured past YIP of the Year award recipients and distinguished members of other Toronto-based insurance associations.

This year’s finalists were –
  • Carol Nguyen from Intact Insurance
  • Ziad Bashi from Northbridge Insurance
  • Kamran Afshar from Intact Insurance
  • Devan Marr from Strigberger Brown Armstrong LLP
The 2019 winner was Kamran Afshar who was chosen because of the
following –
  • In the opinion of the selection panel, this person has not only demonstrated values in line with those of YIPT but they have exceeded them. Their involvement has not only been within their firm and the industry but also their community, their references authentic perception of career trajectory and involvement truly speak to a worthy individual who will continue to serve the industry for many years to come.
This individual has been -
  • Recognized as a Young Gun by Insurance Business Canada as one of the top 35 under 35 due to their career growth, expertise & work ethics;
  • Has been a leader in mentoring young professionals not only through YIPT’s mentoring program but also within their company, mentoring junior colleagues at various offices and is not only a regular speaker at career workshops but takes part in panel discussions;
  • They have also been nominated for this award in past years;
  • And in addition, they have also made the time for community
    involvement outside of insurance, where they got involved with a
    hospital and established a scholarship fund in their brother’s name.
